NEAR at $5, would you still dare to hold it?
Falling from 6 to 5, the whole network shouts "NEAR is done for," but right after everyone cut losses, it rose 45% in 30 days and doubled in a year. Cross-chain swap volume broke $34 billion, ETF quietly accumulating, buybacks with real cash—so is this a normal pullback in an uptrend, or the last escape opportunity before the narrative peaks?
Let's look at the surface first: it dropped, but didn't crash.
Down 3% in 24 hours, 5% in 7 days, retraced 17% from the October 12 high of 6. Sounds scary? But stretch the timeline—up 45% in 30 days, 132% in a year. Market cap $6.53 billion, 24-hour trading volume in hundreds of millions. The candlestick tells you: RSI 53 neutral, price slightly below MA20 but well above MA50/200, still in an uptrend channel—all indicators say one thing: this is a pullback, not a reversal.
But wait.
Are you sure 5 can hold? Are you sure the overall market won't drag it down? Are you sure NEAR's "real revenue" isn't just another PPT?
First thing: NEAR is no longer just an "AI concept coin," it's making money through cross-chain.
People used to criticize NEAR: "Just storytelling, AI narrative blew for two years, nothing delivered."
Now?
NEAR Intents cumulative cross-chain swap volume exceeds $34 billion, a record $4.8 billion in September alone, $2.28 billion so far in October. Fees keep generating, part of the revenue is directly used to buy back NEAR on the open market—$1.84 million bought back in September, share capture still increasing.
In plain terms:
NEAR is now a "cross-chain infrastructure with real revenue and a buyback mechanism." You use it for cross-chain, it charges fees, and uses fees to buy its own tokens.
What is value capture? This is it. Not pie in the sky, but real cash buying back.
Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan put it bluntly: NEAR's investment logic no longer fully depends on the future AI agent economy; the existing cross-chain business stands on its own, AI is an extra option.
Second thing: ETF launched, institutional channel opened.
On September 29, Bitwise spot NEAR ETF (NRR) launched. About $58 million inflow in the first week, currently holding over 15 million NEAR, worth about $79 million.
Sounds small?
But think—this is the institutional channel. Traditional funds buying NEAR used to only go to exchanges, now there's an ETF.
More importantly: there's a proposal to gradually reduce the annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6% (within two years). If passed, inflation pressure will ease significantly.
Buybacks on one side, issuance cuts on the other—the supply side is tightening.
But the harsh truth is:
Buyback scale is still smaller than issuance. The issuance cut proposal hasn't been implemented yet. Supply pressure remains.
That's why NEAR fell from 6 to 5—the positives are real but not big enough for the market to ignore macro factors.
Third thing: a technical signal that must be taken seriously.
The good:
Monthly chart broke a nearly 4-year downtrend resistance and confirmed the retest—this is a macro strengthening signal. Daily chart still in an uptrend channel, MA50/200 far below supporting. 4.76-4.86 is short-term support, tested multiple times effectively.
The bad:
5.15-5.20 is near-term resistance, 5.44-5.55 is the second hurdle, 6.00 is the lifeline. If 4.70 breaks with volume, next stops are 4.50-4.60, even 4.00.
Also, in early October Intents had a roughly $3.8 million vulnerability—though quickly fully recovered and service restored, handled cleanly, it reminds you: cross-chain infrastructure is not without risks.
In summary:
Short-term pullback consolidation near $5, daily chart still biased bullish.
Hold above 5.20, target 5.50-6.00; break below 4.70, watch 4.50 or even 4.00.
Bull vs. bear, judge for yourself.
On one side:
Intents cumulative $34 billion swap volume, real fees + buybacks
Spot ETF launched, institutional channel opened
Issuance cut proposal (2.5%→1.6%) expected
Monthly chart broke 4-year downtrend resistance, macro strengthening
On the other side:
Buyback scale still less than issuance, supply pressure not gone
Issuance cut proposal not implemented, only expectation
Market weak, BTC oscillating around 81k, altcoins may amplify pullbacks
5.15-5.20 resistance, 6.00 failed three times
Key levels
Resistance above: 5.15-5.20 → 5.44-5.55 → 6.00 (bull lifeline) → 6.50+
Support below: 4.76-4.86 (short-term) → 4.50-4.60 → 4.00 (iron bottom)
Trading strategy (no nonsense)
Short-term traders:
Observe support reaction in 4.80-4.90 range, if volume shrinks and stabilizes with bullish candle reclaiming above 5.00, lightly go long, stop loss below 4.70. First target 5.15-5.30, add position if breaking 5.20 aiming for 5.50. Chasing at 5 is painful if it pulls back to 4.70. Leverage 3-5x, watch funding rates.
Swing traders:
Wait for effective break and retest confirmation at 5.20-5.30 before adding, target 5.50-6.00. If 4.70 breaks with volume, reduce position and wait, watch 4.50-4.60. Not recommended to short heavily with strong fundamentals.
Long-term believers:
Build positions gradually in 4.50-4.80 range. Fundamentals supported by real revenue + ETF + issuance cut expectations. Target 6+, further depends on market and AI narrative. But remember—don't treat issuance cut expectation as fact before implementation.
NEAR now is like INJ at the end of 2023—
Everyone said "the public chain story is over," but INJ rose from $2 to $40 on real revenue and ecosystem explosion.
NEAR's cross-chain revenue + buybacks + ETF are just starting to be priced in.
The market always rewards those who spot "story turning into revenue" early, punishes those who always sell before the rally.
