They want to show that reserves are sufficient without exposing individual account details or trading strategies.
They want to verify compliance or creditworthiness without publishing raw personal or financial data.
This requires selective disclosure rather than total opacity.
Verification must remain possible for auditors, regulators, or counterparties when needed.
Confidential computation and zero-knowledge proofs allow exactly this combination of privacy and provability.

Starknet post-quantum roadmap is divided into three phases with different levels of control and progress.
On @Starknet, Phase 1 focuses on securing new activity by replacing certain hash functions (such as Pedersen) with BLAKE2 in specific surfaces.
Some of these changes are already live on mainnet. For example, OS program and configuration hashes were updated in v0.14.3.
Other Phase 1 items, including further state and address-related updates, remain on the published roadmap rather than fully deployed.
Phase 2 aims to provide migration tooling so existing contracts can move forward with less disruption for developers and users.
This phase is still in progress and has not yet delivered production-ready tools for broad use.
Phase 3 covers external dependencies, including bridge messaging and data availability, which currently rely on Ethereum’s infrastructure and timeline.
Starknet is still an L2 today. The network is preparing the surfaces it controls while the remaining dependencies stay outside its direct authority.
The roadmap emphasizes gradual preparation and adaptability rather than claiming the full system is quantum-ready now.
Clear status matters, some hash changes are live, signature demos remain experimental, and later phases are still under development.
