Not all crypto yield comes from the same source.
Before chasing an attractive percentage, ask where the return originates.
Is it generated by real economic activity, borrowing costs, trading fees, or newly issued tokens?
Then consider smart-contract risk, liquidity, and the possibility of losing your principal.
Understand the engine behind the yield before judging the reward.
An airdrop can attract thousands of wallets without creating thousands of loyal users.
Some participants arrive for the reward and leave once they receive it.
The stronger test comes afterward: do users return, use the product, and find enough value to stay?
Acquiring attention is one challenge. Building lasting demand is another.
Monday's ETF figures revealed a clear difference in institutional demand.
Bitcoin ETFs recorded $526.7 million in net inflows on October 19, while Ethereum ETFs lost $103.3 million and Solana ETFs lost $6.7 million.
That is a notable divergence, but one session cannot establish a long-term trend.
I'll be watching whether Bitcoin inflows continue and whether demand for ETH and SOL begins to recover.
Solana's Alpenglow upgrade is an important development to watch.
The proposed consensus changes aim to reduce transaction finality from several seconds to around 150 milliseconds.
Faster finality could improve the experience for applications that depend on rapid confirmation, but technical improvements don't automatically translate into higher SOL prices.
The real test will be adoption, network performance, and whether developers build more useful applications on Solana.
Crypto question of the day:
If a project generates millions in fees, should its token automatically be worth more?
Not necessarily.
Who receives those fees? Does the token have a claim on them? Are the revenues sustainable? How much is already reflected in the price?
A successful product and a valuable token are two different investment questions.
