4 years.
A full 4 years, and ETH still hasn't touched the spike it had in 2021.
Next door, Solana is rising, Bitcoin is hitting all-time highs, even Dogecoin occasionally jumps up.
And ETH?
It's been called "technologically outdated," mocked for "gas fees that are insanely high," and ETF funds have been grinding it down.
It has become the most disliked large-cap coin in the market, bar none.
Then yesterday, Arthur Hayes appeared on Laura Shin's podcast.
He said one thing:
"ETH is the largest position in my fund after Bitcoin."
Wait a minute.
That BitMEX founder, the one who bought Bitcoin at $20,000, the one who gets called a "dead bull" every time he makes a call—Arthur Hayes?
He treats ETH as his second largest holding?
Even more intense, here’s what he said—
"Once it breaks 3000, the reflexive train will start, and we’ll soon see 5000. The year-end target is within reach."
5000.
You read that right.
A coin that hasn’t broken its previous high in 4 years, he’s calling for 5000.
You think he’s just talking big?
Since mid-July, he has bought a total of 7,213 ETH at an average price of $1923.
At one point, his position was down $300,000 on paper.
And then?
He kept adding.
Words matching actions.
Not just talk, but putting real money in.
Even stranger—money is really flowing in.
On August 20, Ethereum spot ETFs saw a single-day net inflow of $221 million.
A 203-day high.
Four consecutive days of net inflows. BlackRock’s ETHA alone took in $173 million in one day.
Institutions are buying.
And they’re buying while everyone else is dissing ETH.
The supply side is even more dramatic.
From June 2 to August 18, ETH supply on exchanges dropped from 7.7 million to 6.54 million.
A 15% decrease in 11 weeks.
1.15 million ETH disappeared from exchanges.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin exchange balances actually rose by 1.8% over the same period.
Money is moving out of exchanges. Chips are concentrating from retail hands to whales.
The most disliked assets often hide the biggest expectation gaps.
4 years.
Everyone thinks ETH is done, old, surpassed.
Then Arthur Hayes stands up and says: Enough.
ETH at 2500,
Will you keep disliking it,
Or will you take a fresh look?
